Our Mission
FreeBirds UK is a UK-based charitable initiative currently in the process of registration with the Charity Commission. We support immigrant, migrant and displaced women who are experiencing domestic abuse in the UK and Europe.
Founded by a survivor of domestic abuse, FreeBirds UK is built on lived experience, cultural understanding and practical knowledge of support systems. We understand the additional barriers migrant and displaced women may face: language difficulties, immigration dependency, fear of deportation, isolation, financial control, lack of local support and unfamiliarity with legal, welfare and safeguarding systems.
Our mission is to help women and their children move towards safety, independence and a life free from fear.
How We Help
Legal and Administrative
We guide you through the legal complexities of a new country, helping you secure protective orders or restraining injunctions against an abuser. We stand by you as you prepare to engage with the police, social services, and legal aid.
Custody, Benefits, and Residency Status
We offer guidance on navigating divorce and custody disputes, prioritising the safety of your children. Together, we assess your options for local social benefits and map out pathways to secure your legal residency independently of your partner.
Safe Accommodation
We help you connect swiftly with local crisis centers and specialized shelters, while coordinating your application for secure housing.
Emotional Support
Our volunteer psychologists offer confidential emotional support, helping you organize the details of your situation and create a step-by-step action plan.
